Dear Friends,
In November, the Church celebrates several things. We begin by honoring those holy men and women that we call canonized Saints on November 1. On November 2, we commemorate all those who have died, those we know and those we do not know. We celebrate these people as part of the Body of Christ in what we call the Communion of Saints. This month would be a great time to pass on family stories and share family photos of people your children may not have known, as you pray for and to these people.
During November, we also celebrate the national holiday of Thanksgiving. We associate this day with food and football and parades, all of which are good. Yet the word” thanksgiving” leads us to think of God’s gifts to us. Although it is not a holyday in the church, it should be a “holy” day in your family. What better way to give thanks to God for all that we have than to attend Mass together. Here at Immaculate Conception, we have Mass at 7pm the night before Thanksgiving and at 9 am on Thanksgiving morning.
Know that you will all be included in my prayers of thanks, especially on this day. It is a blessing to be able to greet your children each day and to see them grow as children of God. Enjoy this special time.

In Praise of Parents
- There are people who faithfully save paper towel rolls and cottage cheese containers (even if they hate cottage cheese) just because they are needed for a project; and these people never laugh or ask why.
- There are people who don costumes and march around the neighborhood in the Halloween parade, even though there’s a good chance they’ll run into somebody from the bank.
- There are people who get plaques made of spray-painted macaroni shells for Christmas and who actually hang them on the wall for everyone to see.
- There are people who stay up half the night arranging tiny red hearts into smiley faces on Valentine cupcakes.
- There are people who hold bake sales and funfairs and sell anything to raise money for learning center computers.
- There are people who take time off work to come to school for something called “career day”, where they try to explain to a bunch of puzzled kids (their own include) what in the world they do for a living.
- There are people who volunteer to climb on a bumpy school bus, where the decibel level can’t even be measured, and ride 7,000 miles to the zoo. Then these same people-all in the name of education-accompany their little group into the ape house amid cries of “Eee-w-w-w! It stinks in here! That one looks just like my brother. E-eee-w—w-w-w Do you see what he did!!`
- There are people who help with homework, sign report cards, run paper off on the copier, count field trip money, show up for the school play, and applaud until their hands ache.
- And then these same people tell you that you’re doing a great job and that their kids love school because of you.
- These are people called parents.
Thank you, Lord, for these special people.

As you know the children should be wearing their winter uniforms by now. This includes a shirt and tie for all boys in grades 1 – 8. Kindergarten boys may wear the golf shirt. Girls in grades 6 – 8 may wear the oxford collar blouse and girls in grades K – 5 wear the Peter Pan collar blouse. As the weather gets colder, the girls may opt to wear navy blue slacks (must be from Flynn and O’Hara) instead of a jumper and skirt. All students may wear a white turtle neck with the logo on the collar. These may be purchased at Flynn and O’Hara. All students must wear a navy blue sweater vest or sweater (v neck or cardigan) with the school logo.
